INDUSTRIALPROGRESS-(Con capacity on the TVA power sys-'em.
Proposed sites for these cquip-rnent installations were the Galla-tin and Johnsonville Steam Plants i>> Tennessee.
Six gas turbines with a
com-bined generating capacity of about 550 megawatts have been ordered from the General Electric Com-pany for the proposed installa-tion at Johnsonville Steam Plant west of Waverly, Tennessee.
These are in addition to a
600 mega-watt gas turbine installation already under construction at that site.
Four gas turbine units with a combined generating capacity of about 900 megawatts have been ordered from westinghouse Elec-tric Corporation for the proposed installation at Gallatin Steam Plant south of Gallatin, Tennes-see.
TUA said these gas turbines are neecled for operation by June in order to have sufficient system generating capacity for projected total summer power loads. The gas turbine units are the only type of generating equipment that can be-installed quickly enough to meet this need.
These units will burn fuel oil and will serve as peaking power
- capacity, normally operating only during periods of maximum power demand and in emergencies.
They will be installed on the gtounds of these two existing power plants.
