SUBJECT:

INADVERTENT CONTAINMENT SPRAY ACTUATIONS

'I Enclosed.,is a Technical. Review" Report on inadvertent containment spray actuations'.

-.Thisreviewjdocume'nts events.from 1984 on in which actual spray "into theicontainment".hasiIbe'en'-'reported.'This',study was initiated as a result of. a,cohtainment';spr'ajy/';acttuatiohn~at San Onofre 2 on November 20, 1990.

Searches. were perfor'med using

NUDOCS, SCSS (via contractors at INEL), and the ESF data base at INEL.

Six events from 1984 on were identified in which actual'spray oc'curred.

In addition, six events for the period of 1980 to 1983 were identified.

I Examination of the damage caused by the actuations from 1984 on indicated that there was a limited amount of short term damage.

Some electrical equipment was degraded due to grounds',

shorts, or corrosion.

Safety related equipment did not appear to be damaged, but an inadvertent RCP start at Kewaunee was caused by 'a containment,'spray actuation three weeks earlier, and the recent San Onofre event caused degradation of non-safety electrical connectors.

Potential long term effects on equipment has been identified by NRR as an area for further review.

,Therefore, no further AEOD acti n is recommended at this time.
