NRC staff, at the

V Office in Walnut Creek, California, on October 14, 1987.
The
subjects
discussed
are summarized in Neeting Report Nos. 50-328/87-36,
50-529/87-35,
and 50-530/87-37, enclosed herewith.
We considered this meeting .to,be mutually informative and keneficial...Our
understanding of key points addressed
during the meeting are summarized
as
follows:
ANPP has established
goals and schedules for the reduction of
inappropriately lighted control
room annunciators.
Specific programs
are being implemented to support long-term goals.
ANPP will.provide 'a
written description of their commitments in this .area to Region
V
ANPP has taken action to more clearly crocus the Palo Verde maintenance
backlog.
Periodic management
reviews of backlogged
items will he
conducted.
The program to identify and trend the maintenance
backlog
will be formaTly,documented,
Independent
assessments
of the training area performed by INPO and
'another utility organization
have identified weaknesses
which are
consistent with recent
NRC concerns.
ANPP has taken,
or
has planned,
action to improve on these
weaknesses.
Me remain suspect of the strength
of management
in the. <raining area.
ANPP has identified several
problems-.with fire doors
and- has-action
underway to rgsol,ye,all
issues in this area by mid 1988.
Interim
compensatory
measures
consistent with the facility technical
specificatiens
"have 'been implemented.

formalize your program to trend the maintenance
