SUBJECT:

INSERVICE INSPECTION PROGRAMS - PALO VERDE, UNITS 1, 2, and 3

(TAC NOs.

56661, 62797 and 64909)

The staff has completed its review of the Inservice Inspection Programs for Palo Verde, Units 1, 2 and 3, which weve submitted by letters dated August 26, 1985, July 17, 1986 and March ll, 1987, respectively, as supplemented by letter dated August 7, 1987.

Based on that review, the staff, has determined that the Inservice Inspection Programs fov Palo Verde, Units 1, 2 and 3 are acceptable and except for one

case, the requested relief from certain ASNE Code Section XI requirements has been granted since the examinations are impractical.

The one case concerning relief from examining the nozzle inside radius "section of vessels is denied since such examination is technically feasible.

Our detailed evaluation is provided as an enclosure.

If you have any questions regarding this letter, please let me know.

Sincerely, Originai signed hy; E. A. Lfcitra~
