Executive Vice President Arizona Nuclear Power Project Post Office Box 52034 Phoenix, Arizona 85072-2034
Dear Mr. Van Brunt:
EJordan ACRS (16)
- Attorney, OELD DISTRIBUTION
Subject:
Response
to ANPP Letter 833713 Dated October 15, 1985 Regarding CVCS Modifications This is to confirm our telephone conversation of October 21, 1985 with Mr. William guinn of your staff regarding your proposed enhancements to the Chemical and Volume Control System (CVCS). Your letter dated October 15, 1985 discussed your three proposed enhancements resulting from your evaluation of the September 12, 1985 event at Unit 1 and requested staff concurrence with the proposed modificati'ons by October 22, 1985.
The staff's review of the events at Unit 1 on September 12, October 3 and 7, 1985 is still in progress.
The scope of the September 12 review encompasses not only your proposed modifications to the CVCS but the steam generator tube rupture reanalysis which was also provided in your October 15, 1985 letter.
In addition, the staff requires your response to the October 2, 1985 letter which requests significant information necessary for the staff to complete its evaluation.
Based on the present status of the review, the staff considers an assessment, at this time, of the adequacy of your proposed modifications to be premature.
You will be advised immediately of the staff's assessment of the proposed modifications at the completion of the review.
Should you have any questions regarding this issue please contact Marilyn Ley, Licensing Project Manager, at (301) 492-7792.
Sincerely, George
