Docket Nos.:

Arizona Public Service Company FACILITY:
Palo Verde, Units I, 2 and 3
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF MEETING TO DISCUSS TASK ANALYSIS FOR A DETAILED CONTROL ROOM DESIGN REVIEW A meeting was held on March 8, 1985 in Bethesda, Maryland with representatives of the applicant (APS).
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the applicant's plans for performing a task analysis in support of a detailed control room design review (DCRDR) for Palo Verde.
Enclosure 1 provides a list of the attendees and the meeting is summarized as follows.
SUMMARY
APS informed the staff that it will perform a task analysis in support of its DCRDR and will retain a
human factors consultant to assist APS with the task analysis effort.
APS described the general approach it will take to perform the task analysis.
Specifically, it will identify the plant specific tasks, along with the information and control requirements and associated control and display characteristics, that are required to meet the generic function or task defined in CE's emergency procedure guidelines (CEN-152, Revision I).
It will then compare the control and display characteristics identified during the task analysis with the controls and displays available in the control room.
Any discrepancies identified will be assessed and corrective actions will be selected and verified.
Where corrective actions have implications for the EOPs, appropriate changes will be made to EOPs.
The staff indicated that APS's general approach to task analysis was appropriate.
During the discussion regarding the above efforts, the staff provided comments on specific details.
APS stated that it had just begun the task analysis effort presented at the meeting and is still targeting the submittal of the results by the end of August 1985.
The staff stated that it is available for further discussions if APS would want to talk about the effort before it is completed.
