Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2 and 3, July, 1983.
Enclosed for your review are seven (7) copies of CEN-239, Supplement 3,
Revision 1, the updated response to questions 8 through ll of Reference (B).
This revision amplifies, updates, and reflects the present analysis results.
These changes are the results of a more detailed treatment of the automatic PORV cases and a
more complete analysis of auxiliary feedwater restoration.

October 13, 1983 ANPP-28004 WFg/MSN We concluded in Reference (A) that the results of the information developed in response to the NRC's questions indicate that the existing capability of PVNGS for Depressurization and Decay Heat Removal is adequate and comparable to the capability that could be provided by the addition of PORV's, and that from cost/benefit and offsite dose analyses, there appears to be no clear benefit or incentive to justify the addition of PORV's for PVNGS.
The enclosed information further supports our position.
