Dear Mr. Knighton:

Reference (A) requested that we provide justification for safe operation of PVNGS, if the responses to all of the questions enclosed in Reference (A) will not be provided by CE at least one month prior to the anticipated fuel load date for PVNGS Unit l.

Reference (B) requested that all information related to the depressurization and decay heat removal capabilities of PVNGS be submitted by June 30, 1983, if we wished it to be considered in your decision making process.

Reference (C) expressed our concern with your position stated in Reference (B), and provided an accelerated schedule for the submittal of PVNGS specific information by July 31, 1983.

We feel this schedule supports the staff's needs.

Also, this schedule for submittal of information is more than thirty days prior to the anticipated fuel load date for Unit 1, thereby precluding the need for us to provide justification for the interim operation of PVNGS.
