SUBJECT:
SUI~iHARY OF SQRT SITE AUDIT MAR 34 1983 The staff conducted a
SQRT (seismic qualification) audit for Palo Verde equipment on February 15-17, 1983.
The items of equipment which v:ere audited are listed in Enclosure 1
and include both NSSS and BOP scope.
An ent~rance meeting to discuss the scope of the audit mas held on the morniligof February 15, 1983, followed by a tour of those areas of the Palo Verde Unit 1 facility where the items of equipment are installed.
The attendees for the entrancemeeting are listed in Enclosure 2.
On February 16 and 17, the staff audited the qualification documents, located at the applicant's offices in Phoenix, Arizona, in support of each item of equipment listed in Enclosure l.
An exit meeting vias held in the afternoon of February 17 to present the staff's findings, which are summarized below.
The attendees f'r the exit meeting are listed in Enclosure 3.
At the exit meeting, the staff stated that it vas satisfied with the

audit results of the applicant's program for seismic qualification of P'alo Verde equipment.
Of the 23 items audited, 19 viere found completely acceptable.
For the remaining four items, the staff identified the need for confirmatory information in order to complete its review of the seismic qualification program.
These are discussed below.
In addition, since the program was not 100/ complete at tne time of the staff audit, the staff reouested that the applicant confirm, prior to fuel load for Palo Verde Unit 1, that the program is 100f.. complete.

Charging Pump Motor Westinghouse (0/L 1926C10)
This pump/motor assembly was qualified by similitude to another pump/motor assembly that was tested.
The tested pump/motor assembly encountered loose
- bolts, a broken weld, and a broken oil sight glass during sine sweep testing.
Confirm that these anomalies, particularly the potential loss of oil, have no effect on the pump/motor assembly performing its safety related function during and after an SSE or OBE.

4 HSSS-PE-093A (II-687) flotor Operator Limitorque (SHR-0-25)
Piping in the vicinity of this equipment and like equipment is restrained in the downward direction only (no up restrai'jnts).
Horizontal movement is not restrained as a clearence exits between the pipe and the sides of the down-ward restraint.
Confirm, for these installed configurations, that the maximum vertical acceleration is less than lg and the miximum horizontal acceleration is less than 3g.
