Environmental Qualification of Safety-Related Mechanical Rquipment Located in Harsh Environment - Palo Verde As a result of our continuing review of the operating license application for several
- plants, we have developed the',following additional guidance concerning submittal of information needed to complete our review of the environmental qualification of safety-related equipment.
In order to demonstrate compliance with General Design Criterion 4 of Appendix A to 10 CFR Part 50, we require that a review and evaluation be performed that includes the following:
1)
IdentificatiorL.of 'afety-related mechanical equipment located in harsh environment areas, including required operating time.
2)
Identification of the nonmetallic subcomponents of this equipment.
3)
IdetItification of the environmental conditions this equipment must be qualified for.
4)
Identification of nonmetallic material capabilities.
5)
Evaluation of environmental effects.
-a The site audit for environmental qualification will be limited to electr ical equipment located in harsh envir onment areas, and will not include mechanical equipment.
He will select approximately three items of mechanical equipment for which documentation of environmental qualification must be provided for our review, along with the results of the review performed -for all safety-related mechanical equipment located in harsh environment, areas.
