Dear Mr. Novak:
In regard to a telephone conversation I had,with Frank Miraglia, NRC, on July 29, 1982, concerning the installation of Power Operated Relief Valves (PORV's), I had promised to keep you abreast of developments in this area.
In light of the emphasis placed on this particular piece of equipment by the ACRS subcommittee on Decay Heat Removal and the recent NRC meeting concerning the full power operating license for the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, we are in the process of preparing an explanation of the history of the developments and our present position concerning the use of PORV's for PVNGS.
This explanation will be provided to Harold Denton, Director of Nuclear Reactor Re'gulation, by October 30, 1982.
