NSIC TERA ACRS (16)

Subject:

Evaluation of Cable Tray Design - Palo Yerde Nuclear Generating Station He have reviewed the material presented in your December 30, 1981 submittal related to the proposed damping values of cable trayways, including the test results and design calculations, and conclude that the cable trayway design is acceptable subject to the following conditions.

(1)

Cable trays used at the Palo Yerde plant are of the same material and configuration as those used in the test program.

(2)

No fireproofing spray is used, which is consistent with the

.actual test conditions.

(3)

Damping values used in seismic analysis of'able trayways are limited to 15 percent, which is conservatively justified by the

tests, instead of the 20 percent proposed.

Therefore, we request that you confirm that the above conditions will be met.

If you have any questions on this matter, please contact us.

Sincerely, orisiml sic ed by

Mr. Larry Matteson Western Division Engineering Supervisor APS Goodyear Office

Dear Mr. Matteson:

RED]y~o e..igp~.

1882 ayg Enclosed you will find a copy of a letter to Mr. Robert Burke, Lead Joint Vse Specialist, APS, which we believe will be self explanatory.

You will also find a copy of the NRC-TLD location description and route book as an aid in locating those APS poles on which NRC-TLD have been placed.

During our brief conversation on February 16, 1982 you asked for a point of contact in the event that circumstances required removal or relocation of any of the NRC-TLD stations.

Your normal contact with respect to the TLD stations should be with; Mr. Paul

Weeden, Prospect Manager, Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency, 925 South 52nd Street, Tempe, Arizona
85281, (602) 255-4845.

In the event that you need to contact the NRC, the Region V office number (415) 943-3700 will answer at any time.

Inquiries may be directed to me or preferably to Mr. Jerry Hamada at that number.

Thank you for your assistance.

If we can be of any help in clarifying any of the enclosed material please let us know.

Sincerely, OFFICEP SURNAME)
