Do not close an open item based on verbal commitments, but you can identify it as verbal and make it a confirmatory item.

Any a'dditional information that is required to close an open item should also be identified (can be stated very generally).

In many cases, the applicant is submitting marked up FSAR pages along with a commitment to include those pages in a future amendment.

This commitment is sufficient to close open items in your SER.

As open items get closed, it will only be necessary to provide a revision, such as the attached example.

REVISION TO SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1, 2 5 3 AUXILIARY SYSTEMS BRANCH 10.4.9 Auxiliar Feedwater S stem (Substitute the following discussion for Item 4 under Part II, Pages 16 and 17 of our original SER input dated June 2, 1981):

"4.

We have reviewed the applicant's response to our request in Enclosure 2 of our letter dated March 10, 1981 regarding the design basis for the AFS flow requirements.

The applicant provided this information in a letter I

dated May 1, 1981.

We conclude that the applicant's design basis for AFS flow requirements is acceptable."
