CULTURAL RESOURCES ELIQIBILITYREQUEST Pursuant to our responsibility under 36 CFR Part 63 as licensing agency for the operation of Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, the NRC requests information necessary to initiate a determination of eligibility request to the<K'aeper of the National Register.

The information requested is> in regard to sites Tll:1, the Van Liere site, Tll:9, the Morocco Ruins, Tll:3 Alkali Ruin, and Tll:10, the Aqua Fria River (Hohokam) site identified in your cultural resources evaluation draft reports A-76-38 submitted in February, 1977 and A-77-120 submitted in June, 1979.

The Arizona State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) felt that 5'of 13 sites identified may contain significant cultural resources eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places and recooxoended that NRC initiate a determination of eligibility request for these areas (reference 4, Section 2.6.4, letter from Dorothy H. Sall, State Historic Preservation Officer, Arizona to Dr.

R. Gilbert, Environmental Projects

Branch, U. S.

NRC dated August 9, 1977).

Four of the 5 sites are still in need of formal determination of eligibility.

The "National Register of Historic Places Inventory-Nomination Form",

available from the

SHPO, may be used, and should be filled out in detai.l with accompanying maps and other materials for each of the four sit'es and returned to the NRC.

Item 12 of the form does not need to be;filled out.

It is requested'hat you protect the designated areas during the determination of eligibility process.
