Dear Mr. Denton:
This letter is in response to a request by your staff via telecon on August 4, 1981 for additional information regarding Arizona Public Service (APS) Company's participation in EPRI's Safety and Relief Valve Testing Program.
APS has participated in the EPRI Safety and Relief Valve Test Program since its inception in response to NUREG-0578.
The only exception to this participation is that we have not acquired a share of the Block Valve Test Program now under development within EPRI and the Safety and Relief Valve Test Program.
This is, of course, since PVNGS.'ystem 80 design does not utilize block valves -on the Pressurizer PiPing.
As discussed in the referenced letter, EPRI has provided their best esti-mate for scheduled completion of testing and submission of final reports.
The PVNGS System 80 design uses Dresser Model 31709NA safety valves for its pressurizer relief function.
These valves are being tested at the CE facility in Windsor, Connecticut, and so the scheduled final report should be available between March and June of 1982, from EPRI.
This schedule will not support scheduled SER work by your staff.
- However, APS will make every effort to have a plant specific submittal available earlier, if possible.
Our current best estimate is late February of 1982 at the earliest.
