SUBJECT:
F. Miraglia, Acting Chief, Licensing Branch No. 3, DL SCHEDULE FOR INDEPENDENT DESIGN REVIEW (IDR) MEETINGS FOR PALO VERDE By memorandum dated November 10, 1980, R. L. Tedesco described the IDR process and requested that review areas be identified which are amenable to this new review concept.
Review areas for which you are responsible were identified and a schedule for participating in the Palo Verde meetings in each of those areas was established (Attachment 1).
Although Q-ls and Q-2s"are not. required, your reviewers should be -familiar with. the FSAR and other, documentation used in their normal review before attending the IDR meeting.
Approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled
- meeting, the principal reviewers-will be asked to participate in a conference call with the utility.
During that conference call, an agenda for the meeting and the selection of IDR board members: will be approved.
In three review areas (Seismology, Geology, Mechanical Engineering),
working meetings will be held in lieu of IDR meetings.
For these meetings, a draft SER will be sent to the applicant a few weeks before the meeting.
The purpose of the meetings will be to resolve all open items in the draft SER.
As with tlie IDR process, Q-ls and Q-2s are not issued.
If you have any problems with the established
- schedule, please contact the project manager, Janis
- Kerrigan, on X27272.
