629/630 By letter ANPP-15746-JtN/HFg, dated June 27. 1980, you requested authoriza-tion to use ABNE Code Cases N-274 and N-275 in your piping specification (13-DH-204). "Field Fabrication Installation of Nuclear Piping", for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2 and 3.
Code Case N-274, dated triarch 17, 1980, "Alternate Rules for Examination of l(eld Repairs for Section III, Division 1 Construction", is an acceptable code case subject to the following conditions in addition to those condi-tions specified in the code case.
These additional conditions are that the use of this code case should be limited only to ferritic materials.
Ifit is desired to use the code case on austenitic materials, then a demonstra-tion of the validity of the UT procedures prior to use of the code case is necessary.
Specia1 UT techniques or RT may be required.
Code gase N-276, dated tray 16, 1980, "Repair of lfelds,Section III, Division 1", is an acceptable code case subject to the following conditions in addi-tion to those conditions specified in the code case.
These additional con-ditions are that the use of this.code case may only be applied when the removal of an indication requires that the full weld" thickness be removed and in addition the backside of the weld joint assembly is not accessible to remove examination materials.
If an indication is removed and weld metal layers remain, the case cannot be used by gauging through the wall.
- Instead, in such a situation, examinqtion of the cavity is required when the indica-tion has been removed.
