RESULTS OF ACCEPTANCE REVIEiJ FOR THE PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION UNITS 1, 2 AND 3 Back round On October 1, 1979, the Arizona Public Service Company (APS) tendered a

joint application for operating licenses for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS) Units 1, 2 and 3.

The joint application was filed on APS's behalf and on the behalf of all the joint applicants in accordance with the Arizona Nuclear Power Project Participation Agreement, dated as of August 23,

1973, as amended by Amendment Hos.

1 through 4.

PVNGS is under construction in Maricopa County, Arizona, approximately 36 miles west of the city of Phoenix.

The PVHGS Units 1, 2 and 3 are scheduled for commercial operation in May 1983, May 1984 and May 1986, respectively.

The joint application was tendered as a standard application referencing the CESSAR System 80 Docket (STN 50-470F).

Antitrust information, the FSAR, and the Emergency Plan was filed with the joint application.

The ER was filed on December 5, 1979.

Review Conclusions The HRC Project Management Staff. has completed its preliminary review.

The Project Managers involved in the review conclude that the application is acceptable for docketing.

Overall, the application is considered to be about 90% complete.

However, some pections of the FSAR and ER were found to be incomplete.

lie will request that the applicant provide the missing information within 5 weeks of docketing.

Based on these findings, we recommend that the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station application be accepted for docketing.
