Dear Mr. Van Brunt:

4

SUBJECT:

USE OF ASME CODE CASES ON PALO VERDE, UNITS 1, 2 AND 3.

By letter dated May 7, 1979, you requested authorization to use the ASME Code Cases listed in your letter in the. construction of Palo Verde Nuclear

'Generating Station Units 1, 2 and 3.

In our letter of July ll, 1979, we responded to your request for all but one (Code Case 1481-1) of those code'ases.

Our evaluation of your request.regarding Code Case 1481-1 is pro-vided in the following discussion.

Code Case 1481-1 (N-19), dated March 1, 1976, is an acceptable code case and may be used in the construction of components during the period-that the code case was in effect.

The code case should not be used in the con-struction of components ordered on or after March 1, 1979.

In our letter of July 11,'1979, we inadvertently referreg to Code Case 1644-4 as Code Case 1644-1.

Therefore, Code Case 1644-1 in our letter should read Code Case 1644-4.

Please advise us if you have any questions regarding our evaluation.

Sincerely, cc:
