SCHEDULE FOR THE RADIOLOGICAL SAFETY REVIEl'I OF THE l'lNP-2 OL APPLICATION This letter is in regard to the establishment of a schedule for the safety review of your application for an operating license for the LIP-2 facility docketed on June 22, 1978.

You will be notified of the schedule for the environmental review of your application when it is approved.

lie have evaluated our workload, and based on this evaluation, we estimate the Prospective Decision Date to be August 8, 1980.

It is important to note that this date is predicated on there. being no safety hearing.. However, a pr,ehearing conference before an Atomic Safety and Licensing Board is presently scheduled for January 11, 1979, following which the question of whether a

petition for leave to intervene will be decided.

A favorable Board ruling on this petition could delay the Prospective Decision Date until late 1980.

A summary of the more important milestones is provided as an enclosure for your information and review. It should be realized that the enclosed dates are target milestones which may require some changes as the review proceeds.

While we will not formally inform you, by letter, of minor changes to the schedule, we will confirm, in writing, significant changes to the schedule.
