Dear Mr. Johnson:
By letter dated December 5, 1994 RGGE was requested to provide, within 30 days from receipt, confirmation that the current order timing modification and the new current order surveillance test (to be done each refueling outage) have been implemented.
As background on this issue, RGGE provided the required 45-day and 90-day responses to GL 93-04 in our letters dated August 5, 1993 and September 20, 1993. Pursuant to the Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG) efforts to resolve this issue, Ginna Station modified the current order timing for the rod control system and successfully performed lead plant testing on April 14 and 15, 1994. Test results were submitted to the NRC by the WOG in,a letter dated May 11, 1994 and were approved by NRC on June 20, 1994 (Reference a.).
The safety evaluation for the current order changes was submitted to NRC by the WOG in a letter dated July 22, 1994. NRC approved the safety evaluation as well as the following in their SER (Reference B): WCAP-13864 Rev. 1, "Rod Control System Evaluation Program"; Westinghouse Technical Bulletin NSD-TB-94-05-RO dated May 6 r 1 994 r Rod Contro l-CRDM Timing Change"; and WOG Recommended Rod Control System Surveillance Test (MUHP-6002).

RG&E confirms that the modification and lead plant surveillance testing was performed in accordance with the documents identified above. The rod control system surveillance test will continue to be conducted during each refueling outage.
