SUBJECT:
REVISED PEAK CLAD TEMPERATURE CALCULATION - R. E. GINNA NUCLEAR POllER PLANT Your letter of May 20, 1982, submitted a reanalysis of the peak clad temperature following the limiting loss-of-coolant accident for the R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant.
This analysis was required when it was realized that the Hay, 1978 calculation performed by the Exxon Nuclear Company incorrectly took credit for only one of the four containment fan coolers.
A conservative analysis must assume that all post-accident heat removal systems operate at their maximum capacity.
You -documented this error in licensee event report LER 81-022/OIT-O, dated January 4, 1982.
Your reanalysis assuming nominal primary coolant system pressure and temperature resulted in a peak clad temperature of"1928oF.
This analysis accounts for the affects of upper plenum injection.
As you requested, our review did n'ot"'include the analysis at reduced reactor coolant system pressure and temper ature which was included in the submittal.
Me have completed our review of your reanalysis and our Safety Evaluation Report is 'e'n'closed.
The addition of three containment fan coolers in the reanalysis increases the peak clad temperature from 1906oF to 1928oF.
lie find the reanalysis to be acceptable.
