Roger Hannah, 404-997-4417 Joey Ledford, 404-997-4416 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Summer Nuclear Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission regional officials in Atlanta have named Eliza Hilton as the agencys resident inspector at the Summer nuclear power plant, located near Jenkinsville, S.C., about 26 miles northwest of Columbia.

Hilton joined the NRC in 2014 in the Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program as a project manager in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation in Rockville, Md., where she received her operating licensing qualification and assisted with licensing actions for the agencys Region IV office in Texas. Prior to entering the development program, she was an intern in the NRCs Rockville headquarters office where she developed a training course for interns.

While in the Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program, she completed a two-week rotation at the Wolf Creek nuclear plant in Kansas and a six-month rotation as a project manager in the Office of Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards. She then served as a reactor operations engineer in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and joined the NRCs Region II office in Atlanta in the Resident Inspector Development Program earlier this year.

Hilton received a bachelors degree in nuclear engineering from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C., and recently received her masters degree in management from University of Maryland University College.

Eliza Hiltons background and dedication will help ensure the Summer plant meets NRC safety regulations, said NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney.

At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at one site for up to seven years.
