DX 14000, JUNO BEACH, FL 33408 Pl//g FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT COMPANY March 7, I 984 L-84-59 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:
Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut, Director Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555
Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
Re:
St. Lucie Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-389 Proposed License Amendment Snubber Visual Ins ection Florida Power & Light Company letter L-84-45, dated February 24, l984, requested a
license amendment to postpone the initial visual inspection of two safety-related mechanical snubbers on the containment spray system until the first refueling outage.
As stated in letter L-84-45, the initial visual inspection has been completed with the exception of the two snubbers identified above, which are inaccessible and require a cold shutdown in order to inspect them.
The next planned cold shutdown is the refueling outage scheduled for October of this year, and therefore, the reason for the postponement.
The current technical specifications require that the initial visual inspection of all safety-related snubbers be performed between four and ten months ofter commencing POWER OPERATION. POWER OPERATION was beguri on June l3, l983 which means that the initial visual inspection of all safety-related snubbers must be completed by April l3, 1984.
Therefore, NRC approval of the proposed license amendment is requested prior to April l3, I 984.
Also, in accordance with IO CFR 50.9I (b)(l) a copy of the proposed amendment is being forwarded to the State Designee for the State of Florida.
Very truly yours, 8403i20040 840307 PDR ADOCK 05000389 P
