This refers to the routine *safety inspection conducted by Mr. D. M. Barss and

others of this office on April 10-12,'1990, of activities at Dresden Nuclear

Ge'nerating Station, Units 2 and 3, authorized by NRC Facility Operating

  • Licenses No. DPR-19 and No. DPR-25, and to the discussion of o~r findings

with Mr. E. Eenigenbrug and others at the conclusion of the inspection~

The* enclosed copy of our 'inspection report identifies areas exami.ned during

the inspection.

Within.these areas,* the inspection consisted of a selective

examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and

interviews with personnel.

No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this

inspection.

However, -one exercise weakness was identified during this

inspection which will require corrective action~ This ~eakness is identified

in the Appendix to this letter.

As required by 10 CFR 50, Appendix E (IV.F),

any weaknesses that are identified must be corrected. Accordingly, you are

  • requested to submit a written statement within 45 days of the date of this

letter describing your planned actions for correcting the weakness ideritified

in the Appendix.

The re~ponses directed by this letter and the accompanying Notice are not

subject to the clearance procedures of the bffice 6f Management and Budget

as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.

In accordance with,10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of

this letter and the enclrised inspection report will be placed in the NRC

Public Document Room.

Exercise Weakness

Failure to provide adequate contamination and exposure control during response

activities to the resin spill would have unnecessarily caused.extensive spread

of contamination and excessive, unnecessary exposure of responding personnel.
