Enclosed for your review, prior to our scheduled meeting of May 8, *1989, is the SALP 8 Board Report for the Dresden Nuclear Plant. co~ering the period February l, 1988 through January 31, 1989, In accordance with NRC policy, I have r~~iewed the SALP Board Assessment and concur ~ith their ratings.
It is my view that your conduct of nuclear activities in connection with the D~esden facility was-acceptable.
Overall, I am pleased with the manag~ment and continuing i~p~ovemeht in the.
p~rformance of the Dresde~ Station.
H6wever, I draw your attention to the.
need to coritinue your imprtivefuen~ programs, p~~ticularly in areas identified as weak in our recent maintenance team inspection.
Highlights of the report are set forth below:

The Dresden Plant As~essment indicated three Category 2 r~tings, two Category 2_improving trend ratings,*andtwo Category lratings.
These ratings reflect acceptable performance j~ all functional a~eas.
The area of Plant Operations received a Category 1 rating which is an improve~ent from the Category 2 and improving rating received duri~g the previous SALP period.
The area of Emergency Preparedness rec_eived a Category 1 rating which is an improvement from the Category 2 and improving rating received _during the previous SALP period:
The area of Mai ntenance/Survei 11 ance received a Category 2 rating during this SALP. pe~iod, During the previous SALP period Maintenance and Surveillance were rated as separate categories with Category 3 and 2 ratings, respectively.
The ratlng received this SALP period for the combined.areas reflects an improvement_fromthe Category 3 received-in Maintenance during the previous SALP period.,*
(5) The.ar~a of Security.re~eived a Category 2 and improving rating which is an improvement from the Category 2 rating received during the previous SALP period.
