EVALUATIONS OF COMMONWEALTH EDISON'S RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 83-?.8 ITEMS 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.2.1, 3.2.2, AND 4.5.1 Re:

Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Unit Nos. 2 and 3 Subsequent to the anticipated transient without scram (ATWS) events at the Salem Nuclear Power Plant, the Commission reviewed intermediate term actions to be taken by licensees.

On July 8, 1983, Generic Letter (GL) 83-28, which required licensee responses to certain actions, was issued.

Commonwealth Edison Company (CECo) initially responded to GL 83-28 in a 1etter dated November 5, 1983, which was supplemented by letters dated February 29, and June 1, 1984.

The staff has reviewed CECo's responses to GL 83-28 for Items 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.2.1, 3.2.2, and 4.5~1. The staff's evaluation for these items is presented in the enclosed Safety Evaluation.

The staff has found CECo's responses to be adequate in these areas.
