By letter dated April 14, ~998, Commonwealth Ediso.n Company (Co.mEd) submitted, for NRC review, a flaw tolerance evaluation performed by General Electric Corporation (GE) to support continued operation of Dresden, Unit 2, with _a flawed reactqr pressure vessel (RPV) head stud.
'(No. 81).. This submittal, GE-NE-523-9~.:.09~1,.. was replaced b/another report, GENE-B13-01920-58, on June 19, 1998, because one assumption in the original analysis could not be

The staff hc;1s reviewed these submittals.and determifled that the flaw tolerance evaluation as revised on June 19, 1998, was perform~d in accordance with the procedures and criteria in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Code) and is acceptable. The staff concludes that it is acceptable to operate Unit 2 with one flawed RPV head stud until the end of the current operating cycle. The staffs safety evaluation is enclosed.

Dear Mr.. Kingsley:
By letter dated April 14, 1998, Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) submitted, for NRC review, a flaw tolerance evaluation performed by General Electric Corporation (GE) to support continued operation of Dresden, Unit 2, with a flawed reactor pressure vessel (RPV) head stud (No. 81). This submittal, GE-NE-523,;,93-0991, was replaced by another report, GENE-B13-01920-58, on June 19, 1998, because one assumption in the original analysis could not be substantiated.
The staff has reviewed these submittals and determined that the flaw tolerance evaluation as revised on June 19, 1998, was performed in accordance with the procedures and criteria in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Code) and is acceptable.
