SUSQUEHANNA STEAM ELECTRIC STATION, UNITS 1
AND 2, INTERIM RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 94-03, "INTERGRANULAR STRESS CORROSION CRACKING OF CORE SHROUDS IN BWRS" (TAC NOS.
M90112 AND M90113)
Dear Mr. Byram:
By letter dated December 19,
- 1994, Pennsylvania Power and Light Company (PP&L) provided an interim response to Generic Letter (GL) 94-03 outlining the core shroud inspection scope and schedule for Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) Unit l.
In that submittal you indicated that the inspections to be conducted at the unit will be in accordance with BWR Owners Group guidance for Category B plants.
Specifically, welds H-3, H-4, H-5, H-6A, and H-7 will be inspected during the outage which began in March.
In discussions with NRR staff, PP8L licensing and technical staff indicated that these inspections will be ultrasonic testing examinations using the GE LD Tracker apparatus.
In addition, your staff stated that welds H-8 and H-9 will be visually inspected and that other internal examinations will include visual inspection of manway covers, and inspections of jet pump hold down beams, the guide and the core support plate.
In addition to the 30-day report on the results of the core shroud inspection, your staff indicated that it would provide a brief summary report on the results of the other internal examinations conducted during the outage.
Based on the information provided in the submittal referenced above and the information discussed with the staff, the staff finds your core shroud inspection plan for SSES Unit 1 to be acceptable.
Sincerely, Docket Nos.
