TO NRC BULLETIN 92-01, SUPPLEMENT 1, "FAILURE OF THERMO-LAG 330 FIRE BARRIER SYSTEM," NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 2 (TAC NO.

M83900)

By letter dated September 29,

1992, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (NHPC) provided a response to NRC Bulletin 92-01, Supplement 1, for Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, Unit 2.

NMPC's response stated that compensatory measures have been implemented consistent with the plant technical specifications and licensing bases.

The NMPC response also stated that appropriate corrective actions to restore fire barrier operability are being developed through an industry program being coordinated by Nuclear Management and Resources Council.

This program will include the establishment of a test data

base, development of guidance for applicability of tests, development of generic installation guidance, and consideration and coordination of additional testing as appropriate, We have reviewed your response and find it acceptable.

Please inform us when all corrective actions have been completed.

Further NRC review, if any, will be performed by inspection or audit.

This requirement affects one respondent and, therefore, is not subject to Office of Management and Budget review under P.L.96-511.
