OPERABILITY OF THE STANDBY LIQUIDCONTROL SYSTEM DURING SURVEILLANCETESTING Enclosed is a Technical Review Report discussing the potential for degradation of both trains of the Standby Liquid Control System (SLCS) during surveillance testing at Nine Mile Point Unit 2.
The automatic actuation of the SLCS is common to only four units in the United States.
The technical review determined that inadvertent actuation during testing could result in either the injection of demineralized water into the reactor coolant system in lieu of sodium pentaborate solution or possibly draining the sodium pentaborate tank contents onto the floor. However, the review concluded that the procedural steps to perform the surveillance test at Nine Mile Point Unit 1 were not generic.
