NOTICE OF VIOLATION Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation Nine Mile Point Unit 2 Docket Number 50-410 License Number NPF-69 I
As a result of the inspection conducted on June 8, 1987 to July 19, 1987 and in accordance with the NRC Enforcement Policy (10 CFR 2, Appendix C) the following violation was identified:
Nine Mile Point Unit 2, Operating License NPF-54, Technical Specifications 3.3.7.8.b and 3.7.7.2.a require that when specified fire suppression and/or fire detection zones are inoperable, an hourly fire watch patrol shall be established to patrol the effected zones.
Contrary to the above, on June 18,
- 1987, between 11:50 a.m.
and 1:45 p.m., fire detection system 243SM and fire suppression system 242NM were rendered inoperable and compensatory hourly fire watch patrols were not performed for the effected zones.
This is a Severity Level V Violation.

Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, the Niagara Mohawk Power Company is hereby required to submit to this office within thirty days of the date of the letter which transmitted this Notice, a written statement or explanation in reply, including: (1) the corrective steps which have been taken and the results achieved; (2) corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further violations; and (3) the date when full compliance will be achieved.
Mhere good cause is shown, consideration wi 11 be given to extending this response time.
