NINE MILE POINT 2 SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT During the past several
- months, members of your staff, Stone 5 Webster Engineering Corporation and the NRC staff have held meetings to discuss items identified as requiring additional information submittals by, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (NMPC).
These "open" items were identified to you either by means of the draft Safety Evaluation Report (SER) provided to you on May 15,
- 1984, via request for additional information letters or via meeting summaries provided to your staff following meetings in San Jose, California, Cherry Hill, New Jersey,
- Bethesda, Maryland and at the Nine Mile Point 2 plant site.
Additionally, conference calls between NMPC and the staff have provided clarification on what is required to close the open and confirmatory issues.
During these meetings, dates by which the required information would need to be submitted to the staff in order to maintain our licensing schedule were identified.
In our draft SER transmittal letter we indicated that in order to maintain our present licensing schedule for SER issuance, ninety percent of the responses should be agreed to and submitted by July 31, 1984 with the'balance provided August 31, 1984.
A large number of open items were not responded to until after Sept.
1, 1984 and a number were still outstanding as of October 1, 1984.
Therefore, we are currently reassessing our schedule for issuance of the SER for your plant.
Within seven (7) days from the date of this letter, please provide your latest estimates for submitting the requested information on these issues.
