Request for Additional Information During its license
- reviews, the NRC staff has recently become aware of some non Class 1E distribution system designs utilizing electrical interconnections (bu s,ties, automatic bus transfers and manual bus transfers) between Class lE switch gear.
The configurations used do not conform to regulatory guidance covering redundant Class 1E bus interconnections.
The impact of these interconnections on the independence of redundant 1E buses has not been identified.
As a result, the NRC staff is conducting an indepth review of these types of interconnections on plants currently under review.
The enclosed request for additional information concerns such circuits found in the Nine Mile Point Unit 2 electrical system design.
Please provide a schedule for response to this request for additional information within 14 days of receipt of this letter.

FSAR Figures 8.3-3 and 8.3-11 shows a
120 VAC automatic and several 125 VDC manual load transfers'etween non Class:lE power supplies which are in turn fed from redundant 4160 VAC Class 1E buses during operation on the diesel generators.l The confi'guration of the circuits is such that a single failure of the transfer device, open fuse holder, or fault between adjacent power panel buses co'uld potential.ly affect the redundant Cl'ass 1E buses.
