STAFF APPROVAL OF ISSUES REQUIRED PRIOR TO RESTART Re:
Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, Unit No.
1 In response to a request from members of your staff at a meeting with us on December 10, 1982, we find that submittals are required from you to support the following reviews:
(1)
An audit of your stress reanalysis of the replaced recirculation piping to determine if the design criteria and methodology are at least as conservative as the commitment presented in the FSAR.
Your submittal should include a summary of the results of the analyses for the limiting cases for piping and piping supports, the design and acceptance criteria, and the analysis methodology.
Also, clarify how the branch connections were evaluated if they were decoupled from the recirculation system piping analyses and how interactions between the branch lines and recirculation piping were treated to obtain the loads.'2)
A review the summary of your repair activities for the repair of the No. 15 nozzle safe end.
The.information to support review of (1) and (2) are required 30 days prior to your intended restart.
o l<e also request that the results of the evaluation and examinations you conducted on the materials and components removed from service be provided.
This item is for long-term staff review and does not form par t of the basis for resuming safe operations.
- Further, we intend to complete a review of your actions to preclude stress corrosion cracking in any austenitic stainless steels with carbon content greater than 0.02 percent.
The information for this item has been received in your submittal dated March 15, 1983.
