SUBJECT:
REVIEH OF FIRE PROTECTION SAFETY EVALUATION SUPPLEtLENTARY ITEMS
'ince mid-1979, there has been an on-going review of supplementary items to the Nine Nile Point, Unit 1, Fire Protection Safety Evaluation (Amendment No. 33).
Our review of 'three of these open items has been recently completed while two items either are incomplete or are unacceptable.
Enclosure (1) is a listing of these five items.
Our review of the following items have been completed, and your position has been found, acceptable:
(1) 3.1.1. Fire Detection Systems, (2) 3.1.8(l) and 5.3.1.6, Diesel Generator Building Vedifications, and (3) 3.1.8(2), Protection of Structural Steel.
Our review of item 3.1.2, Sprinkler Systems, is incomplete at this time'.
Item 5.3.2.6, Diesel Generator Rooms, pertains to the relocation of elec-trical cabling.
In summary, we have found unacceptable your proposed
.alternative to encapsulate cabling in lieu of your original commitment to relocate the control cables for the 102 diesel generator.
He have reviewed the test results on the Pyrocrete encapsulation material which utilized a steel plate test specimen.
This test specimen is not, considered representa-tive of the proposed modification of encapsulating control cables.
Therefore.
the test results do not demonstrate that the encapsulation of the 102 control cables with Pyrocrete will provide an adequate level of fire protection.
Your final disposition of item 5.3.2.6 would be appreciated.
If we can be of further assistance,.please advise.
