The April 7 letter confirmed the scheduled date for submittal of an interim report pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55(e) regarding the subject matter, and also formally requested a meeting be held in the Region I offices on May 7, 1980 to discuss this matter.
The interim report was subsequently forwarded with the, April 15 letter.
This will confirm the telephone conversation between your S; Manno and R. A.
Feil of this office.
The meeting which you requested will be held in our office at 9:00 a.m.
on May 7, 1980.
l<e look-'forward to receiving additional details concerning the cause and planned disposition, of weld deficiencies in the Nine Mile Point Unit 2 biological shield wall.
This -information is expected to be helpful in determining future NRC actions regarding this matter.
Please be pre-pared also to,discuss possible improvements in your quality assurance program to preclude future problems'uch as this.
Improvements in NDE techniques should be considered in view of the apparent original acceptance of defective vendor shop weldiqg.
