NIAGARA MOHAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION UNIT /11 NARRATIVE OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE FEBRUARY 1980 The station operated with a monthly availability factor of 97.5% and a net design electrical capacity factor of 83.2%.

During the entire month

/315 Reactor Recirculation Pump was out of service and isolated due to mechanical problems.

Availability and capacity factor losses were due to the following:

l.

Unit was removed from service and reactor shutdown and depres-surized to perform Core Spray Isolation Valve Quarterly Sur-veillance Test.

2.

Unit was reduced to 77% power due to tube failure of a high pressure feedwater heater.

3.

One brief evolution of condenser circulating water reverse flow operation due to intake tunnel icing, requiring load reduction for reverse flow and return-to-normal flow manipu-lations.

4.

Various control rod pattern changes due to core physics and LHGR considerations.
