20555 Re:

Nine Mile Point Unit 1 Docket No. 50-220

Dear Mr. Lear:

'his letter is in response to your February 15, 1975 correspondence concerning the steam quenching vibration phenomenon.

Technical Specifications 3.3.2 and 4.3.2, as presently incorporated in the operating license for Nine Mile Point Unit 1, provide adequate limits for suppression chamber water temperature.

These specifications include the provision that reactor temperature be brought below 215 F within ten hours if suppression chamber water temperature limits are exceeded.

Surveillance requirements for water temperature and suppression chamber integrity are also provided.

In additi'on to these specifications, operating procedures require a visual inspection of the suppression chamber in the unlikely event that a relief valve should fail to reseat normally.

P

Mr. George Leatr U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page Two March 27, 1975 We are presently investigating whether or not new requirements, in addition to those contained in our February 15, 1974 submittal, may be desirable to ensure suppression chamber integrity.

The results of this investigation will be submitted by May 30, 1975.

Very truly yours, Gera d K. Rhode Vice President-Engineering 1
