Docket No. 50-220 DPR-63 Gentlemen:

During an April 5, 1977 meeting with members of your staff, the Nine Mile Point Unit 1 Containment Integrated Leakage Rate Testing Program was discussed.

Your staff requested specific clarifying information concerning the 1975 Containment Test.

During the subject test, preliminary examination of the.

data indicated that leakage was exceeding the acceptance criteria.

Upon inspection, it was found that tube leaks existed in two,of the containment spray heat exchangers.

The leaking tubes were plugged and a successful retest was made.

In order to prevent this occurrence from happening

again, local testing of the containment spray heat exchangers will:be performed at least once each operating cycle.

As indicated, in our letter of March 2,

1977, the next containment integrated leak rate test will be performed during the Fall 1978 refueling outage.
