Mr. George Lear, Chief Operating Reactors Branch ¹3 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington,. D. C.
20555 Re:
Nine Mile Point'nit 1 Docket No. 50-220 DPR-63
Dear Mr. Lear:
Your letter of January 7, 1976 requested information regarding potential damage to critical torus internal structures and components from missiles generated as a result of bulk pool swell loads impacting the solid catwalk, at Nine Mile Point Unit In a June 18, 1976 letter from Mr. E. A. Hughes to Mr. V.
Stello of the Commission, General Electric provided answers regarding all possible impact targets except for instrument and electri cal lines.
Subsepzent investigation revealed that there are no instrument or electrical lines in the torus which could be im-,
pacted by the solid catwalk.
Nevertheless, as indicated in our July 23, 1976 letter to the Commission, the solid catwalk will be removed and replaced with a grating catwalk during the
'cheduled
- Spring, 1977 refueling outage.
Very truly yours, NIAGARA MOHWK POH'ER CORPORATION c
ider Vice President Electric Production
