APPROVAL OF THE USE OF ASME CODE CASE N-356 AT DIABLO CANYON NUCLEAR POINTER PLANT (TAC NOS.

65304 AND 65305)

The NRC staff has completed it review of your request for authorization to use ASME code Case N-356 for application at Diablo Canyon as identified in your letter (DCL-87-213) dated March 2, 1987.

During the review of AME Section XI, 1983 Edition including Addenda through winter 1983, paragraph IWA - 2300 (a)(1), the staff considered the technical issue addressed by Code Case N-356.

The staff has determined that Code Case N-356, "Certification Period for Level III NDE Personnel Section XI, Division 1, 2, and 3," is an acceptable code case and may be used at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2.

Use of this code case should be documented in the Diablo Canyon Inservice Inspection Program Plan.

This completes staff efforts on TAC NOS.
