Dear Mr,
Shackelford:
Thank you for your letter of June 22, 1979 wherein you committed to respond to the concerns arising from the Three Mile Island, Unit 2 accident as they relate to Diablo Canyon, Unit 1.
We also received your submittal entitled "Report to Nuclear Regulatory Commission from Pacific Gas and Electric Company Describing
Response
Programs Following the Accident at Three Mile Island" dated July 1979.
Me are placing high priority on our revietI of your report and your staff can expect some preliminary comments and guidance shortly from the project manager for Diablo Canyon.
Our review will encompass the requirements developed by the NRC Task Forces on "Bulletins and Orders",
and "Lessons Learned".
Although these requirements will apply to both operating plants and plants still under review for an operating license like Diablo Canyon, the schedules for implementation of these requirements will be different.
As you know, the hearing board for the Diablo Canyon plant wishes to review the NRC staff evaluation before the Board issues its licensing decision.
In addition, we are placing high priority on assigning staff resources to complete our review of the rxmaining outstaMQig safety issues other than those related to the concerns arising from the Three Mile Island accident.
He appreciate your cooperation on these matters.
Sincerely, ori8ina1 signal bY'.
