This letter is to inform you of our requirements-for individuals who have applied for operator and senior operator-licenses for the Diablo Canyon

In 1977, we administered examinations to the cold'applicants.

We admin-istered additional examinations to these individuals in March 1979.

Since then, the applicants have received TMI-2 related training,- including training at the Westinghouse simulator.

It is our understanding that you are administering examinations to the applicants on these subjects.

I In order for us to make a determination regarding additional NRC examina-tions, please provide us with the following information:

1.. Copies of the-examinations administered and answer keys, and

'.",The graded answer sheets of the applicants.

Based on our review of the above information, we will determine if NRC examinations on TNI-related subjects are necessary.

At a minimum, indi-viduals who receive less than 90$ on the examination will'-be required to

'e administered an NRC-TMI examination.

If the fuel loading date is delayed past March 1980, we will administer complete reexaminations to the applicants.

A-minimum grade of at least 70% in each category and an overall grade. of at least 80% are required to pass the written examination.
