27602 Gentlemen:
Region II has recen 'ly acquired a Measurements Van to be utilized by Inspectors of the Fuel Facilit : nd Materials Safety Branch in conducting confirmatory measurements at each power reactor facility.
This letter and its enclosure will provide information relative to the Van and the three Inspectors who will accom-pany it.
It is our intention to initiate these announced inspections in June,
- 1979, following coordination by the Region II Inspectors with your onsite personnel.
In the interests of timely inspections and minimal impact on your security organization I am requesting that the Region II Measurements Van be granted the access privileges of a "licensee designated vehicle" as authorized in 10 CFR 73.55(d,4).
Specifically, I request that the Van, following routine vehicle
- search, be granted a permanent parking location within the protected
- area, be secured by the Inspectors who will control the door keys, and allowed to remain at that location until the completion of the inspection.
Additionally, we have made provisions for self-contained illumination of the Van in consideration of the lighting requirements committed to in your Security Plan.
William Tobin, Region II Security Section, will coordinate our request and he is available to you and your staff if there are any questions relative to this matter.
