SUBJECT:

DOCKET NOS. 50-369, 50-370, 50-269, 50-270, 50-287, 50-413 AND 50-414 As part of the NRC Confirmatory Measurements Program, liquid samples spiked with radionuclides will be sent to the McGuire, Oconee and Catawba facilities for radiochemical analyses. These samples are to be analyzed for tritium, stron tium-89, strontium-90, and iron-55 in accordance with your approved procedures for analysis of liquid waste samples.

If routine analyses of this type are normally performed by a vendor, this vendor should be used to analyze the spiked samples. The spiked samples, with instructions, will be sent under separate cover from the Department of Energy's Radiological and Environmental Sciences Laboratory within approximately thirty days.

We request that the analyses be completed as soon as practicable, but no later than 60 days from receipt of the samples.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region II, Attn:

Independent Measurements and Environmental Protection Section Chief. Our evaluation of your results will be discussed with your staff and documented in our next inspection report for this area. Spiked samples will be sent to you on an annual basis as part of our routine inspection program.
