By a letter dated June 17, 2015 2015 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)

Accession No. ML15176A539), as supplemented by letter dated August 31, 2015 (ADAMS Accession No. ML15243A363), Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E, the licensee), submitted a license amendment request (LAR) to revise the licensing bases to adopt the alternative source term (AST) as allowed by Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), Part 50, Section 50.67, Accident source term. Please note the following official requests for additional information (RAIs) from our Steam Generator Tube Integrity and Chemical Engineering Branch [ESGB] for the AST LAR, and provide your responses within 30 days from the date of this e-mail. We transmitted the draft RAIs to you on August 24 2015, for the purpose of any clarification call. Your timely responses will allow the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff to complete its review on schedule.

1. Identify all time-dependent or bounding values of strong acid concentrations in the sump for a period of 30 days post loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA). In addition, please include the decrease of sump water pH [the indicator of acidity or alkanity] due to them.

2. The submittal information provided a high level description of the calculation for post-LOCA pH. Please provide a more detailed description of the calculation methodology including any computer codes used to determine the sump pH post-LOCA. In addition, provide the following details in order for the staff to verify your calculations:

a. Volume and concentration of sodium hydroxide [NaOH] solution injected in bounding case.

b. Volume of Refueling Water Storage Tank and concentration of boric acid in bounding case.

c. Volume of reactor coolant system and concentration of boric acid in bounding case.

d. Mass of ethylene propylene rubber [EPR]/Hypalon cables assumed in calculation.
