Dear Mr. Parker:

By letter dated Augtust 18 1980 you submitted information requested by our December 20, 1979 letter regarding the safety-grade anticipatory reactor trip (ART) system design.

e requested this information in order to complete our review of your proposed up rade of the AT system from control grade to safety-grade.

Based on our review in the enclosed Safety Evaluation, we conclude that the safety-grade design of the 'ARt system satfisfies the safety require ments and criteria of redundac independence; single failure and testa bility; therefore, we find the design acceptable.

The environmental qualification review of the applicable components of the system Is incomplete.

Our Sa'fety Evaluation provides the basis for installation and operation of the system prior to metion of our equip ment qualifiction review.

Within 60 days of receipt of this letter, kindly submit appropriate Tech nical Specifications including "'Limiting Cond.itioIs f O

By letter dated August 18, 1980 you submitted information requested by our December 20, 1979 letter regarding the safety-grade anticipatory reactor trip (ART) system design. We requested this information in order to complete our review of your proposed upgrade of the ART system from control grade to safety-grade.

Based on our review in the enclosed Safety Evaluation, we conclude that the safety-grade design of the ART system satisfies the safety require ments and criteria of redundancy, independence, single failure and testa bility; therefore, we find the design acceptable.

The environmental qualification review of the applicable components of the system is incomplete.

Our Safety Evaluation provides the basis for installation and operation of the system prior to completion of our equip ment qualification review.

Within 60 days of receipt of this letter, kindly submit appropriate Tech nical Specifications including Limiting Conditions for Operation and Sur veillance Requirements for the ART system.
