ELEVATED LEVELS OF RADIOCESIUMS IN THE ENVIRONMENT - OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION, DOCKET NOS. 50-269, 50-270, AND 50-287 In a letter to the NRC dated April 17, 1987, Duke Power Company transmitted a response to an NRC evaluation of elevated levels of radionuclides in fish samples collected in the vicinity of the Oconee Nuclear Station (ONS).
This evaluation was transmitted to Duke Power Company in a letter dated November 20,
- 1986, and was in response to a June 13, 1984 Anomalous Radiological Environmental Sample Report from Duke Power Company to the NRC which concerned the elevated levels.
The NRC evaluation re-examined the offsite Dose Calculation Manual methodology and reviewed the environmental monitoring and sampling program associated with ONS including Chemical Treatment Pond 3 (CTP-3).
The NRC performed a subsequent review of your response to the NRC staff evaluation on elevated levels of radiocesiums in the environment around the Oconee Nuclear Power Plant.
Enclosed is a copy of the NRC review of Duke Power Company's response noted above. In order for the NRC to complete a review of the issues concerning the elevated levels of radiocesiums in the vicinity of the Oconee Nuclear Station, please provide the additional information that is requested in the enclosure to this letter in a timely manner.
