Dear Mr. Parker:

HOrnstein We are continuing our review of your September 18, 1981 response to our request for additional information regarding the environmental qualifications of various equipment at the Oconee Nuclear Station.

In order to proceed with our review, we require additional inform ation on the postulated radiation levels assumed in your response.

As stated in Section 3.8 of the Safety Evaluation Report attached to our May 22, 1981 request, the radiation value guideline ingide the containment is assumed to be an integrated dose of 4 x 10.' rads.

If values lower than this guideline are used, it was requested that an analysis, including the basis and assumptions used in the analysis and sample calculations, be provided. Our review has determined that radiation values lower than the guideline were used in the Oconee analysis without proViding sufficient justification for us to base a determination of their acceptability. Therefore, we request that you provide the additional information mentioned above within 30 days of your receipt of this letter.

Since this request for information affects fewer than ten respondents, OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511. If you have any questions on this subject, please contact your NRC Project Manager.

Sincerely, John F. Stolz, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #4 Division of Licensing cc:

If values lower than this guideline are used, it was requested that an analysis, including the basis and assumptions used in the analysis and sample calculations, be provided. Our review has determined that radiation values lower than the guideline were used in the Oconee analysis without providing sufficient justification for us to base a determination of their acceptability.
